Professional Engineers Play Critical Role in Nuclear Energy Industry
Nuclear power presents an inherent risk to public health and safety, yet there is no requirement that licensed professional engineers oversee the engineering design, operations, or maintenance of nuclear energy facilities. The National Society of Professional Engineers believes that requiring licensed professional engineers to have direct supervision over all engineering design, operation, and maintenance decisions at nuclear power plants would help mitigate the unavoidable risk associated with nuclear power.

New Class of Fellow Members Announced for 2011
The National Society of Professional Engineers has named 30 professional engineers to its 2011 class of Fellow Members. The Fellow membership grade honors those active NSPE members who have demonstrated exemplary and devoted service to their profession, their Society, and their community.
NSPE launched its Fellow Recognition Program in 2001 and has named over 500 of its members as Fellows. The 2011 NSPE Fellows include the following (in alphabetical order by state):

Turner is currently a senior project manager and client service manager in training at CDM in Maitland, Fla., where she is responsible for client relationships, project quality, schedule and financial commitments. She has served as the project manager for more than 95 projects related to water resources, remediation, and solid waste, and is currently managing 17 projects with a combined budget of $3.62 million.

Engineering Society Achieves Legislative Victory Over Withholding Tax
The battle to repeal a tax-withholding mandate that would have placed a significant financial and administrative burden on engineering firms contracting with the government ended yesterday when the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Senate-amended version of H.R. 674 by a vote of 422 to 0. The bill now heads to the President's desk, where he is expected to sign it into law.
