Cara Tackett, P.E., has been named senior vice president of water resources at Pape-Dawson Engineers Inc. Tackett has 21 years of experience in civil engineering and environmental services. She currently serves as the 2017–18 chair of NSPE’s Professional Engineers in Private Practice and the 2018 president-elect of the Real Estate Council of San Antonio. Tackett earned a biology degree from the University of Texas at Austin and an MS degree in civil engineering from Colorado State University.
The American Association of Engineering Societies has presented John Hall, P.E., F.NSPE, with the Norm Augustine Award. The award recognizes an engineer who has demonstrated the capacity for communicating the excitement and wonder of engineering. For 40 years, Hall has worked at local, state, and national levels to inspire engineers to educate children about engineering, and for over a decade he has lobbied for integration of engineering into the K–12 curriculum. Hall serves as president of Ludovici & Orange Consulting Engineers in Coral Gables, Florida. He earned a BS degree in civil engineering from the University of Miami.
The National Institute of Building Sciences has named Thomas Phoenix, P.E., to the organization’s 2018 board of directors. He will serve a three-year term and represent mechanical engineers in the industry category. Phoenix is a principal at Clark Patterson Lee in Greensboro, North Carolina, and has over 35 years of experience in the design, operation and maintenance, and commissioning of building mechanical systems. A founding partner of the firm Moser Mayer Phoenix Associates, Phoenix is a past president of ASHRAE. He earned a BS in engineering from North Carolina State University.
Nikhil Bodhankar, P.E., has been named as an associate principal of SMRT, an architecture, engineering, planning, and energy services firm practicing nationwide. Bodhankar leads the electrical engineering department in the company’s New York office and has more than 10 years of experience in electrical engineering research and practice. Bodhankar is president-elect of the New York State Society of Professional Engineers’ Capital District Chapter. He earned a BS in electronics and telecommunications from Pune University in India and an MS in electrical engineering from Syracuse University.
Jerry Icenhower, P.E., was inducted into the Texas Military Department Hall of Honor in August for his extraordinary impact on the Texas military forces. Maj. Gen. (retired) Icenhower began his US Army service in 1965 as a commissioned second lieutenant and later served in the Armor Corps and the Inspector General Corps. His assignments included key combat arms and staff positions including Commandant of the Texas Military Academy. In addition to his numerous military awards and decorations, he was designated a distinguished member of the 144th Infantry Regiment in 1991. Before retiring from the energy industry, he served as president and CEO of several Foster Wheeler Corp. companies and on its board of directors.
C. Joel Sprague, P.E., has been presented with the ASTM Award of Merit by ASTM International’s Committee D35 on Geosynthetics. It is the standards organization’s highest recognition for individual contributions to standards development. As a senior engineer for TRI Environmental, Sprague works out of the Denver Downs Research Facility in Anderson, South Carolina. The award honors Sprague for his work with the committee and the geosynthetics industry in standards development, manufacturing audit protocols, and harmonization of testing standards. He previously received the ASTM Award of Appreciation (2000), the GTJ Outstanding Article Award (2003), and the Richard S. Ladd Standards Development Award (2004).
