Colorado PE Set to Begin Presidency

Michael Aitken, P.E., F.NSPEMICHAEL AITKEN, P.E., F.NSPE, SPEAKS TO THE HOUSE OF DELEGATES IN JULY 2017 IN ATLANTA.

Colorado mechanical engineer Michael Aitken, P.E., F.NSPE, will be installed as NSPE president on July 21 at the 2018 Professional Engineers Conference in Las Vegas.

Aitken has more than 25 years’ experience in the fields of engineering, project management, property condition inspections, and expert witness testimony. He is the vice president of MEA Consulting Engineers, a full-service mechanical, electrical, and plumbing engineering firm, which he founded with his wife in April 2000. The firm’s projects include schools, medical office buildings, call centers, restaurants, hotels, office buildings, grocery stores, car dealerships, breweries, and other facilities.

Long active in both NSPE and NSPE-Colorado, Aitken has been president of NSPE-Colorado and a member of NSPE’s Board of Directors, House of Delegates, Budget and Finance Committee, Audit Committee, and PE Conference Task Force. He was named an NSPE Fellow in 2016.

Aitken holds a BS in mechanical engineering technology from the Metropolitan State College in Denver and is licensed in 28 states. He attained LEED AP O+M certification, the recognized standard for design sustainability, and he is also a certified commissioning authority through the AABC Commissioning Group.

Aitken volunteers as a coach and mentor with FIRST Robotics and the FIRST Lego League to encourage elementary, middle, and high school students to pursue engineering careers. He also mentors college students and young engineers on the value of engineering licensure and the importance of giving back to their profession.
