Engineers Week: Creating the Future!
Founded by NSPE in 1951, Engineers Week (February 19–25, 2023) is dedicated to ensuring a diverse and well-educated future engineering workforce. The latest theme for Engineers Week seeks to inspire the next generation by celebrating all the way engineers are Creating the Future! Engineers play a vital role in innovating solutions to global challenges that impact future generations. By working together to develop new technologies, products, and opportunities, engineers create new possibilities that make the world a better place.
Engineers Week is a time for you to celebrate how engineers make a difference in our world and engage students in engineering. It’s also an opportunity to add your voice to the conversation about the need for engineers, technicians, and technologists. Consider the following activities for your Engineers Week celebrations and outreach
- Join us on social media #Eweek2023
- Host an Engineers Week lunch or dinner
- Invite an inspiring speaker(s) for a lecture or panel
- Write a blog post or article
- Visit a classroom or afterschool program
- Invite a student(s) to shadow you at work
- Present engineering careers or share Chats with Change Makers
- Volunteer at a science and engineering competition

DiscoverE Persist Series
The DiscoverE Persist Series is a worldwide speaker series building staying power for women in engineering and tech. Each second Wednesday of the month, join thousands of women around the world to hear inspiring stories and candidly discuss topics like inclusive workplace cultures, being an active bystander to casual bias, and developing a growth mindset.
Future City Competition – Regional Competitions (January) and Finals Competition (February 21)
The Future City Competition asks middle-school students to imagine, design, and build cities of the future. After four months of designing a virtual city, researching, designing, and writing up their solution to a city-wide issue and building a scale model of their city, teams will present their vision to a panel of judges. After the competition is over, student participants are not only prepared to be citizens of today’s complex and technical world, but they are also poised to become the drivers of tomorrow.
Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day (Girl Day) – February 23
Girl Day helps focus a growing movement to inspire girls’ futures so they learn they have a place in engineering a better world. In just one day you can make a difference by sharing your knowledge, experience, and some fun! Give girls the chance to think like an engineer and you’ll be amazed at what you learn!
Federal Engineer of the Year Award Ceremony – February 24
The Federal Engineer of the Year Award honors the commitment of federal engineers to innovation and service. The FEYA ceremony will take place at the National Press Club in Washington, DC.
World Engineering Day – March 4
The celebration of World Engineering Day is also about promoting engineering as a career and how it is an opportunity to change the world for better. The day is also an opportunity to engage with government and industry to address the need for engineering capacity and to develop strategic frameworks and best practices for the implementation of engineering solutions for sustainable development.
