Fall 2020

NSPE Today
PE Pride Around the Nation

Despite the challenges of the year so far, on August 5 professional engineers, AEC firms, and organizations that employ PEs took some time to celebrate. The fifth annual Professional Engineers Day was a 24-hour bash dedicated to the PE’s contributions to our daily lives and the importance of licensure in protecting the public.

Through social media posts and videos using #LicensedPEDay, individuals, firms, companies, and government organizations showed appreciation for the profession. Firms such as Freese and Nichols, McCormick Taylor, and Vilbig & Associates posted blogs supporting the value of the PE. And videos posted on Facebook and YouTube offered insight from professionals at the Florida Department of Transportation, Bolton & Menk, and S&ME Inc., on what it means to be a PE and tips on pursuing licensure.

Professional Engineers Day is timed to coincide with the awarding of the first professional engineering license, which was issued to Charles Bellamy in Wyoming in August 1907. The event launched in 2016 to celebrate the profession while educating the public.

Mark Your Calendar: Next year’s PE Day celebration will be Wednesday, August 4, 2021.
