Mark Mueller, P.E., was named director of public works for the City of Ankeny, Iowa, this past summer. With more than 16 years of engineering experience, he most recently worked as group coordinator and project director for HR Green in Johnston, Iowa. In his new role, Mueller will oversee 30 employees and an operating budget of $30 million. He’s a member of the American Public Works Association and the American Society of Civil Engineers in addition to NSPE.

Richard Shaheen, P.E., has been named vice president of engineering and technical services for the Bonneville Power Administration’s transmission services. In his new position with the Portland, Oregon, firm, Shaheen will serve as principal and policymaker for BPA’s design, specifications, management, and construction of transmission infrastructure projects, including both upgrading present stations and new generation facilities. He has 25 years of experience working for utilities, most recently as senior director with Florida Power and Light.

The American Society of Civil Engineers has given CMA Engineers the Special Award for Innovation and Resourcefulness in a Noteworthy Small Project. Paul Schmidt, P.E., F.NSPE, managed the winning project, the Mt. Carberry landfill leachate siphon. The chair of NSPE’s Licensure and Qualifications for Practice Committee also took home the Outstanding Civil Engineering Achievement Award from ASCE’s New Hampshire section, in recognition for the project’s success and inventiveness.

Randy Sabart, P.E., has been promoted to office manager and civil engineering practice leader for Short Elliott Hendrickson’s office in St. Cloud, Minnesota. A principal with the firm, Sabart has worked at SEH for nearly 20 years. He has experience in street construction, water main, sewer, highway, residential subdivision, and neighborhood reconstruction projects. He earned a bachelor’s in civil engineering from the University of North Dakota.

Larry Stevens, P.E., has been named president-elect of the American Public Works Association and will serve as president for the 2014–15 term. He has also been reelected to the association’s board of directors. A project director for HR Green in Johnston, Iowa, Stevens has close to 40 years of experience, including past jobs with the cities of Grinnell and Oskaloosa, both in Iowa.

In recognition of a lifetime of contributions to professional engineering and community service, Robert Miller III, P.E., F.NSPE, has been inducted into the Hardy Cross Hall of Fame. The Old Dominion University Civil and Environmental Visiting Council and the Norfolk, Virginia, branch of ASCE select inductees. A charter member of the National Academy of Forensic Engineers and 2006–07 president of NSPE, Miller has also volunteered with the Special Olympics for more than 30 years.

Ryne Fiorito, P.E., earned his civil engineering license this past summer. He’s worked with Hanson Professional Services for five years, performing in multiple capacities on educational, industrial, medical, military, and water-supply facilities, in addition to garages, bridges, levees, and other projects. He holds a bachelor’s in civil and environmental engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a bachelor’s in physics with engineering from Illinois College.
