STATEMENT:
It is the policy of the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE) to support the continued development of a strong National Science Foundation (NSF) dedicated to furthering basic research in the sciences and engineering.
DISCUSSION:
NSPE believes NSF should continue to:
- Support engineering education as well as research.
- Promote programs that incorporate educational and research objectives.
- Maximize available funding for its mission through multidisciplinary research including non-federal forms of support.
- Expand engineering membership on the National Science Board and its Executive Committee to achieve the optimum balance of NSF programs in science and in engineering.
