It is the policy of NSPE to advocate for the employment of licensed professional engineers within government agencies and for the involvement of licensed professional engineers in legislative, regulatory, and administrative activities related to engineering. NSPE recognizes the many benefits to public health, safety, and welfare when engineering principles are applied by licensed professional engineers that are either employed by government agencies or retained by government agencies based on their qualifications. NSPE proactively encourages government organizational structures which recognize the importance of engineering and ensure qualified licensed professional engineers are selected for positions having responsibility for making engineering decisions and exercising engineering judgment. NSPE volunteers and business related entities are encouraged to implement this policy in relevant position statements, operating procedures, and business practices.
