Position Statement:
It is the position of the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE) to urge its members to serve on committees appointed to develop new and recognized codes and standards and/or to develop revisions to existing codes and standards involving engineering principles to protect the public health, safety, and welfare.
It is further the position of NSPE that members serving on such committees encourage the adoption of language in international, national, regional, state, and local engineering codes and standards as well as related laws and regulations stating that “the plans and specifications shall be prepared by a licensed professional engineer (or jurisdictionally appropriate equivalent) and shall bear the appropriate seals, signatures, and dates.” This does not preclude other professions, such as but not limited to architects and surveyors, from being specified in roles in conjunction with professional engineers by either the codes and standards or the applicable jurisdictional authority.
Registration is open for NSPECon26 in New York City, New York!
Volunteering at NSPE is a great opportunity to grow your professional network and connect with other leaders in the field.
Decisions at the ballot box influence policies that support engineering standards and public safety.
