Society Names New Executive Director

The NSPE Board of Directors named Mark Golden as the Society's new executive director in January.

Golden has previously served as the executive director and CEO of the National Court Reporters Association, which he joined in 1998. The organization's certification programs form the basis of professional licensure for court reporting services in more than 30 states, and among his other duties he promoted and protected the ethical and quality standards of court reporting.

All told, Golden has more than 30 years of leadership experience with trade organizations and professional societies. In his work for both the Personal Communications Industry Association and the Association of Telemessaging Services International, he helped develop and achieve positive legislative and regulatory outcomes for wireless and communications service industries.

"Mark's in-depth knowledge and experience in associations will not only be a huge benefit to our organization, but to the licensed professional engineers we serve and the engineering profession as a whole," says NSPE President Dan Wittliff, P.E., F.NSPE.

Looking toward his new position, Golden says, "Professional engineers play a vital role in our nation's future and are key players in solving some of the world's most challenging problems."
Golden has earned an outstanding reputation in the association management community. He is a fellow of the American Society of Association Executives, holds the certified association executive credential, and received ASAE's highest honor, the Key Award, in 2011. He is also a past vice chairman of ASAE's board of directors and past chairman of the ASAE Foundation.

Golden has contributed to many publications, including the best-selling Seven Measure of Success: What Remarkable Associations Do That Others Don't.

He graduated with honors from the University of Virginia, earning two undergraduate degrees in English and theater.
