PE Report
PE Parade
The 24-hour ticker-tape social media parade that took place on August 7 made it plain to see: Professional engineers simply love being professional engineers.
On the fourth annual Professional Engineers Day, PEs and their employers celebrated the things that make their careers and profession great. PEs are “the unsung heroes of our civilization who quietly go about their work without fanfare—work that allows us to live as a modern society,” says @wkdickson. They also bring to their communities “a natural curiosity to figure out how things work and how to make them better,” says @littleonline. They celebrated with beer (@SCSPE feted with #BeerswithEngineers in Columbia, South Carolina), ice cream (“Being a Professional Engineer is Sweet,” says @PelotonLand), and cookie cake (@WGA_LLP).
Firms such as Bolton & Menk, Halff Associates Inc., and Wier & Associates Inc. produced PE Day videos. And numerous state and local officials, including Kansas Governor Laura Kelly, Missouri Governor Mike Parson, Texas Governor Mike Abbott, and officials from 12 cities in Texas, issued “Professional Engineers Day” proclamations.
This year’s celebration, for the first time, also included an advocacy campaign. To emphasize the importance of PEs and show their support for federal legislation that would increase gas pipeline safety, 70 NSPE members met with their federal legislators in their district offices.

Held the first Wednesday in August, PE Day was launched by NSPE to coincide with the anniversary of the first professional engineering license being issued to Charles Bellamy in Wyoming in 1907.
Mark your calendar: Next year’s PE Day will take place on August 5.
