Statement of Interest

I am honored to submit my statement of interest for the position of NSPE New Professionals Director. As an early-career engineer, I’ve found purpose and passion in serving the engineering community, and I’m eager to build on that momentum by contributing at the national level through this leadership role.

My commitment to the NSPE Vision and Mission is grounded in my belief that engineers play a crucial role in protecting the public and advancing our communities. Over the past few years, I have actively engaged in professional development efforts, most recently as a speaker at NSPECon 2024 and through delivering soft skills training for early-career professionals with ISPE. These experiences have lit a fire in me—they’ve shown me how much value I can bring by helping other engineers grow and how much more I want to give back to the profession.

Serving as a speaker has deepened my connection to the engineering community and given me the opportunity to engage with professionals from diverse backgrounds. I’ve had the chance to share insights, build relationships, and listen to the perspectives of fellow new professionals—all of which have affirmed my desire to take on a more active role within NSPE leadership. I believe that by stepping into this position, I can be a strong advocate and bridge between national leadership and the next generation of engineers.

I meet the qualifications outlined for the New Professionals Director and am prepared to fully embrace the responsibilities. I actively follow NSPE updates, strategic goals, and governance documents, and I remain engaged with state-level activities and leadership. My experience in volunteer leadership, both within and outside of engineering, has equipped me with strong communication skills, a collaborative mindset, and the ability to lead with both empathy and vision.

I am tech-savvy, responsive, and comfortable navigating online communities and social media to communicate effectively with peers and leadership. I understand the importance of being visible, accessible, and supportive to members across the country, and I will prioritize clear, timely, and respectful communication in this role.
With the support of my employer and colleagues, I am ready to commit the time, energy, and resources needed to be a fully engaged Board member. I understand the financial and travel commitments involved, and I am prepared to attend in-person and virtual meetings as required. I’ve signed and am familiar with the Conflict-of-Interest Statement and understand the duties and expectations of Board service.

Ultimately, my goal is to be a voice for new professionals—one that’s informed, enthusiastic, and forward-thinking. I am inspired by the work NSPE is doing and am eager to play a part in shaping its future while supporting and empowering others on their professional journey.

Thank you for considering my application. I’m excited by the opportunity to serve and help lead NSPE into its next chapter.

HISTORY OF SERVICE AND EXPERIENCE

Throughout my career, I have been committed to giving back to both the engineering profession and my local community. My involvement spans technical organizations, professional development initiatives, and civic service—each rooted in a passion for empowering others and fostering connection.

Within NSPE, I’ve had the honor of sharing my perspective as a young professional engineer by speaking at NSPECon 2024, where I discussed navigating the early stages of a career in the industry. This experience gave me the chance to connect with engineers across the country and further ignited my desire to become more engaged at the national level.

At the state level, I’ve been proud to support Doris Hohertz, current President of ISPE Illinois, in organizing soft skills training events throughout the state. These sessions have allowed me to speak on communication, leadership, and career growth—critical tools for young professionals. In doing so, I’ve had the opportunity to meet and collaborate with many talented engineers and leaders, deepening my appreciation for the strength of our professional community.

Beyond NSPE and ISPE, I am an active member of WISE (Women in Science and Engineering) within my company. I regularly volunteer to speak at local high schools and lead STEM engagement events with the Girl Scouts, introducing young women to engineering and encouraging them to consider careers in STEM. Supporting the next generation of engineers, particularly women and underrepresented groups, is a cause I care deeply about.

In my local community, I serve as the director of our recreational soccer league, a year-round commitment that involves organizing games, managing volunteers, and ensuring a positive experience for families and kids. It’s a role that has taught me a great deal about leadership, patience, and the value of showing up consistently for others.

Across all these roles—whether presenting at conferences, mentoring students, or coordinating community sports—I’ve found that giving back is one of the most fulfilling parts of my life. Meeting new people, sharing experiences, and building relationships are at the heart of everything I do. I believe this position with NSPE is a natural next step in expanding that impact and helping connect and support new professionals across the country.

I am proud of the work I’ve done and excited about the opportunity to continue serving. The experiences I’ve gained through NSPE, ISPE, WISE, and my local community have prepared me to take on a greater leadership role, and I’m ready to bring my energy, insight, and commitment to the position of New Professionals Director.
