2019–2021 Call for State Delegate Nomination

NSPE is seeking individuals to represent NSPE members in the states listed below on the NSPE House of Delegates for a term commencing in July 2019 and expiring in July 2021:

  • Florida
  • Iowa
  • Louisiana
  • Minnesota
  • Mississippi
  • Montana

The NSPE House of Delegates is responsible for maintaining and approving amendments to the NSPE Bylaws, Code of Ethics and Professional Policies under which NSPE operates, as well as electing the NSPE officers and board. State delegates should be familiar with member needs within their state, interested in helping shape the direction of NSPE and willing to invest time and energy in advancing NSPE’s mission and fostering an effective partnership between state societies and national.

The House of Delegates meets once each year during the NSPE annual conference (generally held in mid-July), and delegates are expected to remain engaged and informed of NSPE activities throughout the year and to participate in online and conference call meetings, as required, between the annual General Assembly.

A state delegate to the NSPE House of Delegates must be a licensed Professional Engineer and a member in good standing of NSPE. To learn more the time and financial commitments that service as a delegate entails, nominees are required to read the NSPE State Delegate Position Description and Responsibilities.

Submitting a Nomination – Deadline: April 24, 2019

Nominations are now open for individuals interested in serving in this capacity. Self-nominations are permitted. To be considered, each candidate must submit the following in electronic form (Word or PDF) to [email protected] no later than April 24, 2019:

  1. A statement of interest, addressing how you meet the Basic Qualifications for NSPE House of Delegates state delegate. [one-page maximum]
  2. A summary of history and previous experience and service to NSPE, its state affiliates, other engineering organizations, and relevant civic service. [three-page maximum]
  3. A signed NSPE House of Delegates Certification Form indicating your willingness and capacity to fully meet the obligations of the office, and to abide by all applicable NSPE bylaw, policy and legal duties and obligations.

Nomination and Voting Procedures

Once a nomination is received, NSPE staff will verify the nominee’s eligibility based on NSPE Bylaw 13 and Operating Procedure 7.11 to serve; and then prepare the candidate’s submitted materials for presentation to all voters (in good NSPE standing) in an online ballot. On April 29, NSPE members in each state will receive a message urging them to review online the candidates’ statements of interest and history of previous experience; and to cast a vote electronically for ONE candidate. NSPE members may only vote once. Ballots will close on May 3. The nominee receiving the highest number of votes will be seated as the 2019–2021 state delegate. Winners will be announced May 6.
