Leadership

The National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE) is led by a dedicated group of volunteer and staff leaders committed to advancing the engineering profession and upholding the highest standards of professional practice. NSPE leadership is composed of experienced, licensed professional engineers and strategic professionals who bring expertise, vision, and a shared commitment to public health, safety, and welfare.

NSPE Board of Directors

The NSPE Board of Directors governs the society and sets the strategic direction to support its mission: to promote, protect, and defend the value of licensure and the ethical practice of engineering. The Board includes:

  • President – Serves as the chief elected officer, representing NSPE to members, partners, and the public.

  • President-Elect – Prepares to assume the presidency while supporting current initiatives.

NSPE Executive Staff

The NSPE executive team, led by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), manages the society’s day-to-day operations and implements the strategic initiatives set by the Board. Staff leaders oversee areas such as:

  • Government relations and advocacy

  • Member services and engagement

  • Education and professional development

  • Communications and public outreach

  • Finance and administration

Together, staff and volunteer leaders ensure that NSPE remains a vital resource for professional engineers at all career stages.

NSPE House of Delegates

The NSPE House of Delegates (HOD) is a key component of the society’s governance structure, serving as the representative body of the membership and a vital link between state societies and national leadership.

The House of Delegates:

  • Provides input and recommendations on long-term strategy and major policy issues.

  • Facilitates dialogue between NSPE’s national leadership and state societies to ensure alignment and collaboration.

  • Acts as a forum for discussing critical issues facing the engineering profession.

  • Elects members to serve on the NSPE Board of Directors, including the President-Elect.

The HOD is composed of delegates from each state society, as well as representatives from NSPE interest groups and practice divisions. Delegates are typically professional engineers with extensive experience and a strong commitment to advancing the goals of the society at both the state and national levels.

Through the House of Delegates, NSPE fosters a collaborative, member-driven approach to leadership that strengthens the voice of professional engineers across the country.

State Societies

The National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE) operates through a powerful network of state societies, which serve as the foundation of the organization’s grassroots engagement, member services, and advocacy efforts. These state societies are integral to NSPE’s mission of protecting the public health, safety, and welfare by advancing the licensed practice of engineering.

NSPE’s state societies are independent, affiliated organizations that represent licensed professional engineers within each U.S. state and territory. They serve as the local voice of the engineering profession and provide tailored resources and support to engineers in their respective regions.
