Dan Clinton, P.E., F.NSPE, received the National Society of Professional Engineers' most prestigious award for professional engineers at the recent 2015 annual meeting in Seattle. He was recognized for the many contributions he has made to the engineering profession, for his work as a civil engineer, and the numerous volunteer leadership roles he has undertaken on behalf of NSPE and the engineering profession over the past six decades.

Clinton is a retired civil engineer, and during his 41-year career, he held a number of key positions, including senior vice president for public works, land development and transportation, with Lockwood, Andrews & Newnam Inc. He has been a member of NSPE and the Texas Society of Professional Engineers since 1953. He holds PE licenses in Texas, Louisiana, Colorado, and Oklahoma, and is a registered land surveyor in Texas and Louisiana. Clinton has been very active in his profession, serving as NSPE president, Southwest Region vice president, national director, chair of the NSPE-NICET Issues Task Force, chair of the NSPE Constitution and Bylaws Committee, vice chair of the NSPE Educational Foundation, vice chair of the NSPE Council of Fellows Committee, a member of the Legislative and Government Affairs Committee, and as a trustee of the National Engineers Week Foundation.

Clinton served the Texas Society of Professional Engineers as president, region vice president and state director. He has been a trustee of the Texas Engineering Foundation, and chair of the PAC trustees. He is a past president of the Engineers Council of Houston, the Houston Engineering & Scientific Society, and past state director and chapter president of the Council of Engineering Companies of Texas, president of the Houston Air Force Association, and vice president of the Texas Air Force Association. He was also president of the Houston USO, where he was instrumental in opening the USO facilities at Bush Intercontinental Airport. Clinton has served as an officer of the Houston Branch of the American Society of Civil Engineers. In 1993 the Texas Society of Professional Engineers recognized Clinton’s contributions to the profession by naming him both the Houston and the Texas Engineer of the Year. Clinton has served as chair of the Rotary Lombardi Committee, and of other committees, and he is currently the president of the Rotary Club of Houston.

A graduate of Texas A&M University, he was named a distinguished alumnus in 1995, a distinguished alumnus of civil engineering in 1999, and he was the Houston A&M Club’s Outstanding Aggie in 1997. He has a master’s degree in civil engineering from Stanford University. Clinton served in the Air Force and retired in 1984 as a colonel. His unit was named the Outstanding Texas Air National Guard unit in 1975.
