Bias in the Engineering Workplace

There are expanding efforts to encourage and support the entry of more women and people of color into the engineering workforce, but a significant challenge to the recruitment and retention of diverse talent can’t be ignored. Despite progress, the engineering workplace can still be a very trying experience for women and people of color.

Now, more than ever, young women are being encouraged to pursue engineering careers. The outreach has resulted in more women earning engineering degrees. However, a National Science Foundation-funded study shows that despite increased efforts to recruit women into engineering, too many of these women are going into other fields after graduation or are exiting the profession within 10 years or less. >>
