Deadline Drawing Near for Ethics Contest

NSPE members are invited to test their knowledge of engineering ethics during this year’s 2018 NSPE Milton F. Lunch Ethics Contest. Participants must act quickly though; the deadline for submissions is April 27.

For the contest, NSPE’s Board of Ethical Review presents two different hypothetical situations regarding the ethics of engineers. This year, competitors also have the option of submitting their own case. Participants simply must choose any one of the situations and develop an essay, video, photo essay, poster, or PowerPoint presentation demonstrating an understanding of the presented facts and the NSPE Code of Ethics.

Contestants must consider the facts of the case and develop a discussion and conclusion to respond to the included questions, citing specific sections of the NSPE Code of Ethics for Engineers. This year’s winner will receive a $2,000 award, a certificate, and recognition in PE magazine.

The annual competition is named after Milton F. Lunch, NSPE’s general counsel from the 1940s until the 1980s. He was critical to the establishment of the NSPE Board of Ethical Review and the development of the NSPE Code of Ethics in the 1950s. Lunch passed away in 2001, but his legacy of championing the importance of licensure, ethics, and professionalism lives on through his namesake contest.
