March First Friday: Illinois Bridge Load Ratings & AASHTOWARE

Illinois Bridge Load Ratings & AASHTOWARE presented by Peter Pascua, PE, SE and Satyam Mandloi, EI - Willett, Hofmann & Associates

Load ratings are required to determine the safe live load carrying capacity of a bridge structure, and AASHTOWare Bridge Rating (BrR) is the preferred tool by IDOT to load-rate structures in Illinois. BrR has been used by many DOTs and is the becoming the preferred software for load ratings all over the country. IDOT has issued circular letters requiring all IDOT NBIS structures be rated in BrR to meet FHWA requirements and to streamline the process of issuing permits. BrR can load rate most of the bridge structures in Illinois using all three rating methods: ASD, LFD and LRFD.

Learning objectives of this webinar are:

  • Understand current IDOT circular letters related to Load Rating of Bridges
  • Provide an introduction to the AASHTOWare Bridge Rating (BrR) load rating process in Illinois
  • Discuss the common BrR deliverables required for submittal to IDOT
