Engineering firms are facing increased project risks due to changes in increased competition, higher client expectations, and changing project delivery methods. During this session, disciplined project execution and operational excellence will be described and we will discuss how and why these business elements are important to managing technical, financial, contractual, reputational, and other risk. Examples of good and bad project execution will be shared and the participants will discuss how those examples mitigate or increase risk. We will also discuss how good business operations and a continuous improvement culture can decrease risk.
Noelle Cochran, P.E. is Regional Risk Manager - Central U.S. in AECOM’s Design and Consulting Services Division. She supports multiple business lines with project risk evaluation and risk mitigation. Noelle has served as an Operations Manager, Quality Program Manager, and Project Manager. She uses that experience to integrate and enhance risk management and project delivery. Noelle has led engineering design projects and provided technical mediation and litigation support to clients. Noelle received her Civil Engineering degree from the Colorado School of Mines. She has held various officer positions in NSPE-Colorado and served as a MathCounts Coordinator for over 25 years.
