Ensuring Sustainability through Strategic Planning

Rural communities, especially those with declining populations and limited financial and technical capacity, often depend on the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development’s Water and Environmental Programs (WEP) to provide basic health and sanitation needs. Due to their limited resources, the need for sustainability is acute.

This session will explore how WEP provides affordable financing for water and waste projects to improve the quality of life in these communities. Attendees will discover how engineering and environmental reviews contribute to sustainable infrastructure projects, and learn the importance of careful analysis of the owner’s and the proposed project’s finances to ensure sustainable systems.
