The guide’s safety recommendations begin with the premise that the public’s interests are best served when licensed professional engineers oversee the design, development, and/or deployment of emerging technologies.

The National Society of Professional Engineers deplores the injustice within our society that led to the deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and countless others. We also condemn the violence it has in some places provoked. Racism in any form is not acceptable. To this end, I would remind all members that basic human decency and the NSPE Code of Ethics demand that “Engineers shall treat all persons with dignity, respect, fairness and without discrimination.”

NSPE President David Martini, P.E., F.NSPE, is urging Congress to include professional associations, like NSPE, in relief funding for small businesses. In a letter to House and Senate lawmakers, Martini urged the lawmakers to make Section 501(c)(6) organizations eligible for certain economic relief opportunities under the CARES Act, such as the Paycheck Protection Program.
