House Resolution Supports Science

Tuesday, August 9, 2011

Shortly before the House adjourned for August recess, Reps. Judy Biggert (R-IL-13) and Rush Holt (D-NJ-12) introduced a resolution (H.R. 378) advocating the inclusion of science education in the accountability system set forth in the Elementary and Secondary Education Act. Congress has yet to reauthorize the law despite President Obama's call for the bill to be finished before the beginning of the school year. The STEM Education Coalition, of which NSPE is a member, was instrumental in crafting the resolution. The STEM Education Coalition supports STEM programs for teachers and students at the Department of Education, National Science Foundation, and other agencies that offer STEM-related programs. The coalition is composed of more than 1,000 diverse groups representing all sectors of the technological workforce.
