 Turner is currently a senior project manager and client service manager in training at CDM in Maitland, Fla., where she is responsible for client relationships, project quality, schedule and financial commitments. She has served as the project manager for more than 95 projects related to water resources, remediation, and solid waste, and is currently managing 17 projects with a combined budget of $3.62 million. In addition, Turner leads the CDM local office's Civic Action Committee comprised of over 200 multidisciplinary professionals who participate in a wide range of civic activities. Prior to joining CDM, she worked at Earth Tech in Orlando where she served as project manager and environmental engineer performing site assessment and remediation projects including projects at Avon Park Air Force Range, MacDill Air Force Base, and several petroleum and dry cleaner project sites. She also completed engineering internships at both Florida Power Corporation and Lockheed Martin while attending the University of Central Florida, where she earned her bachelor's degree in environmental engineering in 1997.

Turner is active in several professional societies including the Florida Engineering Society (FES), the Florida Water Environment Association (FWEA), and the Florida Section of American Water Works Association (FSAWWA). She currently serves as one of the FES Central Florida Chapter MATHCOUNTS chairs and one of the State MATHCOUNTS chairs. She is also the vice chair for the FWEA Integrated Water Resources Committee and serves on the FSAWWA Water for People Committee. In addition to her involvement in professional organizations, Turner has also presented at numerous conferences and has been published in several professional publications. Most recently, she co-authored Designing Pretreatment for Control Arsenic Leaching in ASR Facilities, a paper published in the American Water Works Association Journal in June 2009, and presented "Solving the ASR Arsenic Problem: Pilot-Tested Approach Shows Promising Results" at the WateReuse Foundation's 14th Annual Water Reuse and Desalination Research Conference held in Tampa in 2010.

Leslie Turner, P.E., BCEE, was recently named the 2011 Young Engineer of the Year by the National Society of Professional Engineers at the 2011 Annual Meeting in Las Vegas.

Turner has also consistently received awards for her engineering accomplishments, including the 2010 FES Central Florida Chapter Young Engineer of the Year, the 2010 FES State of Florida Young Engineer of the Year, and the 2009 Excellence in Environmental Engineering Small Projects Grand Prize for Groundwater Remediation Using Enhanced Anaerobic Bioremediation by the American Academy of Environmental Engineers. While attending UCF, Turner was a member of Chi Epsilon (National Civil and Environmental Engineering Honor Society) and Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society. She was also awarded several scholastic achievements, including a department of engineering scholarship.

Apart from her professional endeavors, Turner is active in her local community and participates in a variety of events to benefit scholarships, Boy Scouts, and other charitable causes. She lives in Apopka, Fla., with her husband and two boys and enjoys bike riding with her family, running with friends, and watching her oldest son, only four years old, play soccer.

The Young Engineer of the Year Award recognizes young NSPE members who have made outstanding contributions to the engineering profession and their communities during the early years of their careers. Any licensed professional engineer or engineer intern who is an NSPE member in good standing and is 35 years of age or younger as of January 1 is eligible for nomination. The NSPE Honor Awards Committee selects the recipient on the basis of educational and collegiate achievements, professional and technical society activities, civic and humanitarian activities, continuing competence, and engineering achievements.
