Mentor of the Year Award

2013 MENTOR OF THE YEAR AWARD APPLICATION
The Mentor of the Year Award is given each year to the one member of NSPE who best exemplifies the ideal image of a mentor. The award may be given to an individual who has established a record of consistent outreach toward individuals in the engineering field, including engineering professionals and students, over a number of years.
This award can also be received by an individual who has contributed to support or development of mentoring programs within their company or in the engineering community.
The ideal candidate should have a record of achievement in offering guidance to and fostering development among engineering professionals.
2014 NSPE Mentor of the Year
Elbert W. (Bert) Link, P.E., F. NSPE, F. SAME
Mr. Elbert W. Link, P.E., while presently retired, has spent 54 years of his professional career working with the United States Army Corps of Engineers (Retired Lt. Col.), Turner Collie & Braden and Othon Consultants. Working with foreign army representatives throughout the world, USACE staff in four states and throughout his career in private practice in Houston, Texas, Mr. Link has showed exceptional leadership through mentoring. Through his involvement with the Greater Houston Chapter of the Texas Society of Professional Engineers, Mr. Link has presented ethics courses throughout southeast Texas to Chapter members, public agencies and private companies. During his 45 years of NSPE membership, Mr. Link has served in all leadership positions at the chapter and state level, including TSPE President and on national committees for NSPE. Bert is also a Fellow with the Texas Engineering Foundation and has been active with Future Cities and Mathcounts competitions for about 20 years. Mr. Link utilizes the opportunities presented through his activities to reach young engineers and offer support and mentoring.
