Some Ideas For Fostering Student Chapters

  • Hold an Order of the Engineer ceremony.
  • Resume writing workshop. Visit your career center to identify an human resources professional from a local company to give a brief session on resume tips.
  • Help your NSPE state society/local chapter with MATHCOUNTS and JETS competitions.
  • Work with your NSPE state society to recruit local engineers to speak to students about engineering careers or to provide mentoring opportunties.
  • Get involved with local Engineer Week events and activities.
  • Host an informational meeting on scholarships, including what is available through NSPE and your state society, plus where else to look, how to shine up your applications, and so on. Ask someone from your university's career center to participate along with an NSPE member.
  • Host a "pizza" lunch and watch one of NSPE's Free Web seminars on topics such as ethics and professional development.
  • Fundamentals of Engineering Exam preparation. Your faculty advisor or another professor should be able to help with this or you may try contacting your local NSPE state society/local chapter to help.
  • Work with organizations like Habitat for Humanity and Engineers Without Borders for possible extra credit and invaluable experiences.
