Tips on Recruiting Faculty Advisors

  • Appeal to their sense of honor and duty to the engineering profession. By sponsoring a student chapter, they are in essence pledging their alliance to an organization that is dedicated to protecting and promoting a positive image of engineers for years to come. They can set an example for colleagues and students alike.
  • Appeal to their sense of community. By becoming a member of NSPE and serving as an advisor, they are automatically a part of a vast community of engineers from all disciplines.
  • Mention Networking. It is a major benefit of NSPE membership. Members are able to form valuable business contacts to help further their careers.
  • Appeal to their need for continued professional development. Professional development through NSPE enables them to stay abreast of issues facing engineering professionals and the latest business techniques used to overcome them. This information will prove valuable in the classroom as well as in their endeavors.
  • Appeal to their need for knowledge. The NSPE publications and Web site offer vast knowledge for both professional and educational engineers. They can use this information as models for classroom discussion and assignments.
