The Professional Engineers in Government is administering the annual PEGASUS Award program. The Professional Engineer in Government Achievement and Service in the United States Award recognizes the engineer who has made the most outstanding contribution to the advancement and practice of engineering. The PEGASUS award will honor a registered professional engineer employed by a state, regional, county, special district, or municipal government.
The PEGASUS awardee is selected by a panel of judges established by NSPE-PEG who will consider
- Civic/Humanitarian Activities
- Education (Formal and Continuing)
- Engineering Achievements
- Professional/Technical Society Activities
- Registration
The PEGASUS Award may be used (in full or part) to adopt a regional, state, or local government engineer of the year award program.
2008 Award Winner
Ali Mustapha, P.E. has been chosen as the winner of the 2008 PEGASUS Award. Mustapha is assistant city engineer for the city of Shreveport, Louisiana. While working for the city of Shreveport, he has been instrumental in creating programs to reduce flooding and improve drainage. He established the Flood Prone Property Acquisition Program for the city and the Storm Water Management Program and he managed the design and construction of 20 million drainage improvements/flood control project and 50 million of a public utilities (water, sewer, and lift stations) project for the city of Shreveport.
Mustapha is active in the Louisiana Engineering Society where he has served in many capacities. He served as president in 200304. He is the chairman of the Louisiana Engineering Society PEG Practice Division. He is also involved in numerous committees at the state level for LES including Long Range Planning, MathCounts Chairman, and Future Cities Chairman.
Mustapha was appointed by former Louisiana Governor Kathleen Babineaux Blanco to serve a six-year term on the Louisiana Professional Engineering and Survey Board in 2006. He is also a member of ASCE where he is serving as president elect of the Louisiana Section.
