Through the Years: An NSPE Time Line 19701979 Year: 1971 | 1972 | 1975 | 1978 | 1979 The NSPE Legal Fund is created to provide financial support in court cases affecting the engineering profession. The Professional Engineers in Construction Practice Division is authorized. The Department of Justice files an antitrust suit against NSPE for Code of Ethics provisions banning competitive bidding of engineering services. It is a case that NSPE will fight all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court. NSPE begins publication of the NSPE News newsletter, which covers news of the Society. The newsletter continues until 1992, when it is incorporated into Engineering Times. The Society establishes the NSPE Political Action Committee. Supported by member contributions, the bipartisan NSPE-PAC backs candidates who support the engineering profession. The first issue of Engineering Times is published in September to provide readers with "a broad scope of interpretive reporting and commentary on the issues and events that members of the engineering profession have in common, across all the technical disciplines."
