It is presented to an engineer who has made outstanding contributions to the engineering profession, the public welfare, and humankind. After earning a bachelor's degree in architectural engineering at the University of Texas at Austin in 1957, he worked with the post engineer in Fort Sill, Oklahoma. Guerra soon joined W. Clark Craig & Associates and rose through the ranks to become an associate of the firm. In 1973, he founded Jose I. Guerra Inc., Consulting Engineers, a multidiscipline engineering company in Austin, Texas. ith his leadership, the firm made significant engineering contributions at the local and state levels through work on 1,500 projects in commercial, industrial, municipal, institutional, and health-care areas. Guerra stepped down as president and CEO in 2009, and now serves as chair emeritus. A past president of the Texas Society of Professional Engineers, trustee of the Texas Engineering Foundation, and past NSPE national director, Guerra has given much of his time to the profession. He is presently serving as member and past chairman of the American Association of Engineering ocieties' International Activities Committee for UPADI, the Pan American Union of Engineering Associations of Latin America. |
